Registration/Enrollment Process at Hamilton Central School (HCS)
Welcome to the Hamilton community! We are excited to meet you and your child(ren) and to support them throughout their academic journey. The following guidelines will help you begin the registration process.
We understand that starting at a new school can be a challenging and overwhelming experience for both students and families, and we are committed to making the transition as smooth and stress-free as possible.
If you have any questions about whether your address falls within the HCS District, please contact Jodi Shantal, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, at 315-824-6310.
Residency Requirement:
All new enrollments require proof of residency. You will need to provide a purchase agreement, tax receipt, or lease, along with two proofs of physical address with current dates (e.g., utility bill, water bill, etc.). Additionally, you must sign the residency affidavit, which needs to be notarized. Mrs. Shantal can assist with notarization, so please bring your driver's license when you come in.
Please call Jodi Shantal at 315-824-6310 prior to your visit to confirm that she is available or if you have any questions about the residency process.
Enrollment Process:
Once residency has been approved, please reach out to one of the offices listed below to complete the enrollment process. HCS is located at 47 West Kendrick Avenue, Hamilton, NY 13346, and is divided into two buildings. The grade level of your child will determine which office you need to contact for registration. Please call to schedule an appointment to complete the necessary paperwork, meet the assigned school counselor, and tour the school.
- Elementary School (Grades PreK-5): Office # 315-824-6330
- Middle School/High School (Grades 6-12): Office # 315-824-6327
A separate enrollment form is required for each child. Additional paperwork must also be completed in person by the parent/guardian during the appointment.
When you come to enroll, please bring relevant documents such as schedules, transcripts, IEPs, etc., to help the school counselor develop a suitable schedule for your child. HCS will request records from your child's previous school once all paperwork is completed.
UPK & Kindergarten Enrollment:
For enrollment in Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) or Kindergarten, please contact Shannon Newkirk at 315-824-6330. She will be able to send you the application packet and answer any questions you may have regarding the enrollment process.
Additional Information:
- Divorced/Separated Families: If applicable, please bring legal documents such as court papers indicating physical custody, joint custody, or sole guardianship. This is necessary for our records, as, under education law, biological parents have equal rights unless documented otherwise.
- Special Education: If your child has a 504 plan or Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from their previous school, please contact the Special Education Office at 315-824-6350 for information on the programs HCS offers for students with academic needs.
- English Language Learners: If English is not your child’s primary language, please inform the counselor or secretary during enrollment.
- Temporary Housing: If you or your child is currently living in temporary housing due to unforeseen circumstances, please complete and sign the appropriate form in the registration packet.
We are here to help make the transition to our school as easy as possible for you and your child. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
