National Suicide Prevention Month Fact of the Day: There are a variety of reason why people have suicidal ideations, attempts or completions. Risk factors for suicide at the individual level include untreated mental illness and substance misuse. Relationship-level risks include family conflict, knowing someone who died by suicide (particularly a family members), and social isolation. Factors that help prevent suicide include problem-solving and coping skills, positive self-esteem, finding a sense of purpose in life as well as family connectedness and supportive friendships. In order to help prevent suicide within our community, we need to check in with each other, make every effort to be inclusive of all of our peers and make sure everyone feels safe and welcome. If you, or someone you know, may be experiencing suicidal ideations or thoughts, please tell a trusted adult as soon as possible. Throughout all of these conversations, just know that you are all important, you are all loved, and you are all integral building blocks to the foundation of our HCS family and you are all needed in order for our HCS community to shine as bright as it does.
