National Suicide Prevention Month Fact of the Day: Many times people will exhibit warning signs if they are having suicidal ideations or have taken the next step and developed a plan. It’s important to know the signs and symptoms so that you can recognize them and get your loved ones the help they need. Some phrases people may use if they are having suicidal ideations include talking about wanting to die or wanting to kill themselves, talking about feeling empty or hopeless or having no reason to live and talking about feeling trapped or feeling that there are no solutions. While these saying can be said in jest or jokingly, it’s important to take all statements like that seriously because you never know who may actually be having suicidal thoughts or ideations. As always, if you, or someone you know, may be experiencing suicidal ideations or thoughts, please tell a trusted adult as soon as possible. Throughout all of these conversations, just know that you are all important, you are all loved, and you are all integral building blocks to the foundation of our HCS family and you are all needed in order for our HCS community to shine as bright as it does.

The SEL room will be closed during Middle School lunch today! Join Mrs. Merkt in the lobby to continue to fill in the HCS Heart!

Athletic News:

Last night the Varsity cross-country team ran at Westmoreland’s Splash Zone! The race was less about running and more about synchronized swimming. Gavin Moshier bravely faced the downpour without a raincoat-because who needs dry clothes when you can embrace the soggy lifestyle? He's clearly living by the motto, “What’s a little water?” Meanwhile, Coach Helfant found a cozy spot under Ingrida’s umbrella. Smart thinking, Coach! We’re pretty sure they were both questioning their life choices!

Matt Berry dashed his way to a fantastic 2nd place with a time of 20:02.4. Not bad for a guy who was practically swimming! Gavin finished in 16th place with a time of 23:16.5-just in time to enjoy a nice, warm cup of rainwater? On the girls' side, Cora Loranty took the lead with a soggy 28:50.1, while the “fun run pack” of Clare, Anna, Julia, June, and Lilianna decided it was more fun to run together than stay dry. They definitely win the award for “Best Group Splash!” They were likely running for fun (and warmth). Ainsley got a personal record, nothing motivates you to run faster than wanting to get out of the rain! Great job team! XC Practice is happening this afternoon unless the rain pours us away.

The Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks varsity field hockey team has earned a record of 7-1 at the midpoint of the regular season, racking up wins against Auburn, Sherburne-Earlville, Sauquoit, Camden, New York Mills, and East Syracuse Minoa. Their only loss has been to Clinton. The squad has scored a total of 44 goals while only allowing their opponents 8 goals. Co-captain Ryan Verbitsky helps to anchor the stingy defense. However, in yesterday’s game vs Sauquoit, Ryan contributed on the offensive end when she scored a goal off a penalty corner. It was her first goal of the season and the second of her varsity career. The team hosts Little Falls on Friday at the Morrisville-Eaton Middle/High School in a rematch of last year’s sectional championship game.

The boys’ varsity soccer team traveled to Poland last night, looking to better their record against a tough, league opponent. It was a game where the Knights never were able to take a lead; that is until the last 2:47 of the game. In a thrilling, back and forth game, the boys came out on top, winning 4-3. Levi Neuenschwander and Gavin Hames each scored two goals, with Colin Olsen adding two assists, with Bryce Wright and Luke Langel each earning one assist. Cooper Roy made nine saves to help secure the win. The team plays tomorrow at home against UAS at 6pm.
