¡Feliz cinco de mayo! Cinco de mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. While celebrated more in the U.S. than in Mexico, it's a day to honor Mexican culture and heritage, not Mexican Independence Day, which is on September 16th.

Attention middle school: today we will be starting the ELA exams one more time! By now you know the drill. Report to your first class, for the first 10 minutes. Use this time to go to the bathroom, get tissues, etc. Classes will report to your test site at 8:10. Students opting out should have a note on file with Ms. Inman in the counseling center.

NJHS Members: This is a reminder that volunteer forms need to be turned into Ms. White on or before this Thursday. Any students who have signed up to volunteer at the Senior Citizens’ Breakfast or the Kinney Carnival may have one extra week to turn in their forms (May 15th). If you are missing any signatures on your form, take care of that early this week. Thank you!
Attention orchestra students: if you are participating in the farmers market performance, there is an after school rehearsal in the orchestra room on Tuesday, May 6th from 2:45 to 3:30 pm. Please attend if you are able!

Senior Class meeting this Wednesday, May 7th, during lunch in room 117. We will discuss May Jam, lip sync battle, and the graduation speaker.
Prom tickets are on sale during high school lunch. The cost is $25 single or $45 per couple. Cash and checks made out to HCS will be accepted. We also ask that you sign up during the same time if you wish to participate in the prom walk. Prom guests from other schools need the appropriate form filled out and returned by THE END OF THE DAY TODAY. All prom attendees need the signed contract returned by this Wednesday, May 7th. Forms are available in the main office, in the MS/HS Google Classroom or in Miss King’s room. If you go to BOCES and are not here for lunch, please see Miss King or Mrs. Amir to purchase tickets.
Juniors: remember to sign up on the Google Doc posted in our Google Classroom if you can donate a case of water for prom, bring in white lights for us to borrow for decorating or if you can help us decorate this Friday, May 9th at the Palace Theater.

On Friday, the varsity tennis team endured rainy conditions and swept their double header against Poland by winning their matches 10-0. Winning for the Knights were the singles players James Hanmer, Andrew Holm, and Vivi Linden. The doubles teams of Elijah Meyers & Tyler Kowalski and Matthias Page Fagon & Thaddeus Trefeissen also tallied victories. Excellent job team! The squad is now 4-2 on the season. The team plays again tomorrow at home against Clinton. Practice today from 3-4.
On Friday night, the Varsity softball team defeated West Canada Valley 18-0 to improve to 7 and 2 on the season. Ellie Freeth went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Eve McCorkle went 2 for 3 and scored 3 runs. Lexie LaFrance added 2 RBI and Rih Dye had a 3 RBI Double with the bases loaded. The team was 11 for 11 on stolen bases in the game. The defense was led by an outstanding 5-4-3 double play from Chloe LaFrance to McCorkle, to Lexie LaFrance to end the second inning. Freeth picked up the win in the circle, striking out 9 while yielding only two hits. Practice today 3-4.

Thank you to the student-athletes who were active in the Sports Boosters Fundraiser Friday, we’re off to a strong start. For those who missed, see Mrs Welsh to get the instructions on how to join. Everyone should have used the “Parent Share” feature in the Invite Wizard so your parents/guardians can help in adding friends/family on your behalf. In order to receive the voucher for the Spirit Shop, you need to raise $500 OR send 20 emails and receive 5 donations. Emails that your parent/guardian add, count towards your email total.
