Use this link below to access the "HCS App Database". This database is updated by teachers at HCS and is a snapshot of some of the best apps that we are using to differentiate learning. We hope that you will find this database useful in locating applications! Please check back often, as we are finding innovative, new apps each day!
You're probably thinking, iPod Touches and iPads as learning tools?!? After two years of successful one-to-one implementation, we have enthusiastically added these devices to our arsenal of learning tools. Although there are well over 1,000,000 "apps" for the iPod Touch and iPad, this is only one piece of the full capability of these devices. Students are using them to access an extensive library of e-Books, interact with their peers and teachers, locate media created by students and teachers, participate in interactive assessments, maintain calendars and homework schedules, be reflective learners and document their synthesis of knowledge, learn from content created from professionals in all academic areas, monitor and share their learning and progress, and much more!
So, where will you find iPods and iPads at HCS?
*In "clusters" throughout the primary classrooms in the elementary
*In "clusters" in content area classrooms in the middle and high schools
*One-to-one programs of iPod Touches in fourth and fifth grade classrooms
*One-to-one program of iPads in sixth grade (new for 2011-2012!)
*Powerful tool used for Response to Intervention (RtI) where students are utilizing iPod Touches and iPads as differentiated devices, which are customized to meet their individual learning needs
*During the summer months, incoming PreK students each received an iPod Touch loaded with apps to close any potential achievement gap before entering the doors of HCS
